Day 133

Post BMT +71

Discharge Day! Over 4 months inpatient and Tatum rang the bell today signifying the end of her treatment. Impossible to hold it together, emotions were all over the place. Happy tears that she’s at this milestone. Gratitude for a fresh start. Sadness for the pain and heartache and also to say goodbye to our hospital family. They have been our everything for years but especially the last few months in the BMT unit. Everyone from the cleaners, ISS admin staff, Dr’s, NP’s, PA’s, pain team, childlife and psych. And especially our beloved nurses have found a place in our hearts. We are beyond grateful for the impact this so special group of people has had on our whole family. Working together and by Gods grace, Tate has a shot at a future and a healthier life. How do you say Thank you for that?

We weren’t sure exactly where our heads would rest tonight, but we are in a hotel across the street from Children’s. So much up and down, back and forth today. One minute we were leaving, the next we weren’t. Lots of indecision on our part as Tate had a pretty yuck day physically. Throwing up again, increased nausea and stomach pain, she seems to have a yeast issue in her gut from the steroids. More med changes today and a couple trips to pharmacy. Homecare was out for tpn training and to get her on the portable pump. The idea of a long awaited discharge ending in a hotel felt so wrong to me.

But…God gave us the right nurses today, (Both Trina and Ash were back! ) the right team and all the support to show us that the location to discharge to doesn’t change the outcome. We got Tate to the hotel where she immediately crawled into bed and has been resting since.

Tomorrow brings a clinic appointment and Hospital Prom if Tate can rally. Tonight she didn’t feel well enough to even look at the dresses. Regardless of how tomorrow turns out, we will end the day in gratitude as Tate keeps fighting for her health. And I have to admit. Although I am looking forward to a few less interruptions and a bit more privacy, I am going to miss seeing the faces of our BMT family that loved our whole family so well. ❤️‍🩹
