Day 70

ICU Day 2
The quick lidocaine fix hasn’t looked like we had hoped. The night was long. Lots of pain and restlessness. They turned it up this morning and the day remained the same with little improvement. They sedated her this afternoon as she was so miserable. Although she is sleeping a bit more, Tate’s intermittent moans and crying out and tears are telltale of how much she’s still hurting. Add in the body posturing and the elevated vitals and you can see it on the screen. She has developed some pretty intense stomach pain to add to the mix. They believe she has mucositis in her small intestine. Not a surprise as mucositis runs the gamut of the GI tract.
We are exploring upping the sedation, the lidocaine, or both. Sedation is a little tricky as they want her to be able to get up to protect her lungs from infection setting in. But pain also prevents movement. The therapeutic window for lidocaine is small. Praying the lidocaine comes to full therapeutic value for her soon and works like it did the end of December. They don’t have anything else to offer Tate as she’s been on too many pain meds for too long.
More BP meds for high BP and magnesium were added tonight to protect her heart. Tonight may bring platelet and/or blood transfusions.
We are praying we’ll get through this rough spot quickly and with no hiccups. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. But we do know that we don’t walk alone and are being carried the whole way.
**Prayer request: There’s a teen boy ( his mom and I share a mutual friend) also in the PICU. He’s really struggling. He’s on a ventilator and his kidneys are now requiring dialysis. This boy has been through more than most can even imagine. Pray for healing for Sean, and strength for his mama, Jen. I’m not able to find her and hug her in order to keep Tate safe, but want her to feel the love from hundreds of strangers praying for her.
