Day 10
Big events today were actually getting out of bed for a wheelchair ride outside of the BMT unit doors to see Ruffles, a sedated nap for a PICC line placement and brain MRI and the smiles that came with having Ash as Tates nurse again.
PICC procedure went fine. Tate was feeling pretty bummed about needing a PICC, but is already grateful to be rid of the IV’s that make her veins so ornery. They were able to get it in her L arm which was a bonus as Tate is R handed.
MRI results are in showing nothing acute infection related. We’ll wait for a more thorough explanation of the more chronic changes found, tomorrow.
It took a little coaxing to even get Tate out to see Ruffles today due to nausea and pain. But, she lit up once she actually got to see her. So thankful for that little boost today!
We had Ash again today. She brought Tate a new sleeping mask with a matching scrunchie. Tate gifted the scrunchie back so they could be matching.
I’m feeling very thankful for the care and compassion of the BMT team today after such a hard day yesterday. Being heard and having my concern validated and reciprocated is simple, but changes everything.
Tates intestinal rehab Dr. Stopped by yesterday too. Dr. Gumer has become a blessing in short order as well. Something as simple as eating and drinking and the ability to digest, we take for granted many times a day. When it makes you constantly sick and you have to be fed through your blood stream and a tube into your intestine and/or stomach, you realize how life altering something like dysmotility is. Nobody knows that better than Tate and especially our sweet friend, Lilly. It’s a frustrating cycle that easily gets derailed. We are so happy to have a Dr. and dietician (we Lindy too) that not only understands dysmotility and Tates nutritional needs but also the emotional effects all of this has on body image for a teen girl. Grateful!
