Day 4
We had sweet visitors today. Sending Dave and Katey home to WY with love and prayers.
Cultures were positive again today. ID came in and said the central line needed to be pulled. Ultrasound and echocardiogram today showed a blood clot at the end of Tate’s line. As of now, the plan is to pull the line tomorrow. This procedure is done at bedside and Tate is very nervous. PICC removal is old hat to Lilly and she has given Tate the rundown. Between Lilly talking her through it and a dog at her side, Tate thinks she can do it. We all know she can. Medical Anxiety is a pretty central part of Tates world now….she’s just been through too much. I’m not sure yet the plan beyond that. A new line cannot be placed for 48 hours. GI is consulting to see if there’s any way Tate can avoid a new central line. We’d love that, but considering she’s eaten nothing in two days and has drank maybe 2oz, it seems like being off the tpn is a pretty big stretch. Tomorrow will likely be a busy day.
Tate has kept the nurses busy this weekend with an airhead candy challenge. We’re grateful that simple things make the days brighter and that the nurses are willing to play along to bring a smile.
