Day 5:

No bacterial classification results yet today. Instead, the culture was sent off to Mayo formore specialized testing and wil take 10 days for results. We definitely don’t want to wait in patient as long as Tate is safe, so there was a shift in plans today.

Typically, patients don’t go home on IV vancomycin because it has to be run continuously. But…we’ve done it before and so Infectious disease agreed to let us go home on it again. In preparation, Tate was switched today to continuous IV vancomycin in her central line and vas team came and placed a new peripheral line to run her ivig through for the next two days.

If all can get coordinated with home care, Tates Vanc levels are good, we can coordinate her IT pump refill, home fluids with continuous iv antibiotics and a single lumen central line and a million other things, we might get to go home tomorrow night. They’re still working on the brain mri, but we don’t necessarily need to sit inpatient for that. We do enough hospital at hone that we can do most of what’s left there. But still lots to get organized tomorrow .

Tate had a rougher day today again with migraines and pain. But her body has been through a lot, so recovery is not always a straight path.
