Day 16
In good news….
Tates labs are looking MUCH better than her labs on Thursday. Her white count went from 14,000 to 4,000 and her ANC from 12,000 to 1,000.
Tate’s lung nodules are shrinking! This confirms that the many nodules spread throughout all her lung lobes are indeed many blood clots that are infected . Antibiotics seem to be working.
In the not so good news…
Tate has a new blood clot on the end of her central line. Yes, already! Yes, this is the line that was put in just a few days ago.
She has been on lovenox (blood thinner) shots since her last run in with DVT’s last February of 2025 And has now been on IV antibiotics for two weeks and will continue on them for at least 4 more weeks. So this may be a watch and wait situation. Hematology will weigh in tomorrow.
The bigger issue is actually what in the world is her body doing and how do we prevent something catastrophic. She shouldn’t be producing clots like this normally and especially not on lovenox.
We aren’t going home tomorrow. Tate didn’t have a great day. She slept all day and is almost off, but still on the pca. Maybe Tuesday …
I’ve gotten questions on the circle drawn on her R upper arm. She had an IV extravasate. This is when the IV goes bad and the medication or fluids running through it go into the tissue. It’s painful and swells. They monitor it like cellulitis and sometimes have to inject medication into the tissue to stop the damage. Another clue to her ornery hematologic system. This was in her brachial vein and shouldn’t have gone bad like that. But she burned through many, many IV’s this admission. We just lost another brachial line on her other arm as I type this.
