Day 1:
Today was procedure day for a new GJ. That part went just fine. Waking up from anesthesia though, Tate came out in really rough shape. Usually once o get to her she is awake and eating a banana slushie. Today she was crying and beside herself. She was absolutely freezing despite heat packs and a bear hug blanket and a pile of warm blankets. She was also in incredible amount of pain all over her body. She later spiked a 101.6 fever which made sense of chills. But the pain is harder to make sense of. So many meds were tried with little or very short term relief. This led to an admission, a ketamine drip, and a sepsis workup. She is finally resting after adding in a migraine cocktail. She is absolutely exhausted.
The shredded tinsel to all of this are our nurses that welcome us with hugs and quick action and advocacy to get tate what she needs. It was a really stressful and difficult evening. The simple act of some socks and scrubs to sleep in and toothbrushes is such a simple act of kindness that makes you not feel alone. We were greeted by day shift charge Shannon and We have Taylor tonight. A complete gift and exactly who we needed. I don’t think our nurses will ever understand just how much we love them and how big a role they play in making these stays tolerable. They are our medical family. We you Taylor! Thank you to all of our nurses. You are so special to us and we are so grateful for you!
