Day 2:
Tate ran fever again much of the day until this evening. She’s still on two heavy hitting IV antibiotics for the infection and an oral one to prevent her best infection friend, C-diff.
She needed a potassium and phosphorus infusion last night and another tonight.
Tate’s blood cultures are positive which explains her inflammatory markers tripling today. More cultures will be drawn tonight. We don’t know exactly what’s growing yet, but do know it’s gram negative which can be stubborn to treat.
Around 6 tonight, things rapidly fell apart for Tate. She had a severe pain reaction that also looked very dystonic. She was vomiting profusely and in the bathroom on repeat. Her temperature climbed and she was in absolute agony. This went on for hours and the Rapid Response Team was called. This brings up all kinds of professionals including the ICU team. We had a couple options to try, one being in the ICU, the other staying on the floor. We the ICU people but it’s a hard place to be. Tate is doing okay staying on the floor tonight. ICU is prepped and ready should things shift. It was rough! Our nurses Tayla and Taylor were there to take charge and get the right people in front of Tate. Again…I have so much love and respect for these ladies. Today, like last night, was again SO difficult. It wouldn’t have been manageable without them.
Tomorrow we should have a better idea of next steps. We are praying we can save Tate’s line. And we are hoping for a quiet night.
