Day 4:
Tate’s ultrasound of her Right arm came back showing new blood clots. One of them is in a vein that is closer to the surface of her skin and runs the length of her bicep. The other is a smaller clot in her jugular. As Tate is already maxing out her blood thinners, additional solutions to treat or prevent these clots seem to be scarce. IF these clots are septic (infected,) we land once again in a whole additional category. Tate’s new peripheral line on the other arm also seems to be clotted. We’re waiting on vas team to come up yet tonight and ultrasound that one.
Today was another emotional day as we work to try to control/help anything we can before landing further in a worsening baseline. We will see some familiar faces tomorrow in infectious disease and hematology.
Tate had a rougher day overall today physically, which I’m attributing to stopping the IV antibiotics. She continues to be on iv dilaudid every 2 hours on top of her at home pain meds and IT pump.
We had a surprise visit today from Round Up CEO, Sarah. She brought all kinds of sunshine, a super fun goodie bag and we are blessed to call her a friend. Thank You Sarah!
We also added an amazing nurse to Tate’s primary team (missed a photo) and had an orange tea party with some beloved familiar faces. It’s the people that make the hard edges a little softer.
