Day 3

EEG came off late afternoon. Tate actually didn’t have any of the same neuro episodes while it was on. However, they really don’t think they’re seizures anyway. And, the EEG didn’t show any seizure activity. Everyone (including providers) was hoping it was, as that’s something treatable. What it did show is diffuse slowing consistent with what you see in encephalopathy. Tate isn’t presenting with an infectious encephalopathy, but rather what is likely disease progression.

Tate’s infection specific inflammatory marker came back high today, but culture’s haven’t yet grown. Her temp and HR are climbing a bit again tonight, but they’ve stopped the antibiotics. It’s been a little harder getting this new to us inpatient team on the same page this admission. We’ll see if the lack of antibiotics tonight change how Tate feels tomorrow. Progress on the weekend is tough.

Tate got another new peripheral IV line with ultrasound today and also had an ultrasound of her R arm to look for blood clots as she’s been having pain in it. No results yet.

Tim and Keira were here for a late lunch with us and the girls did a cute craft together. Art therapy spent the whole evening working through some hard topics with Tate and I while we did a little sip and paint-minus the sip. Super grateful for art therapist, Erin. She created a fast friendship with Tate a couple admissions ago and is not only an amazing human but really great at what she does and a huge asset as a new member of the children’s team.

There’s been a lot of grief and tears the last couple days. This is the hard stuff.
