Day 4 (Part 2)

After a lot of mental and verbal ping pong this morning, Tate did make it to and through her tests. The LP and lung biopsy were tabled due to surgical availability, but likely will still happen. Tate was sedated for several hours and we’re already getting answers back tonight. I haven’t gotten to speak to her Dr’s yet, so won’t share details until I know for sure, but mri is showing areas of concern and very basic cell diff from Tates lungs shows extensive inflammation. In addition, blood cultures from Sat night turned positive with the same class of bacteria that we treated in early December.

So…..it seems this may be what was hypothesized by ID, but lots more tests will trickle in over the next couple of weeks.

Tate is back on oxygen again to sleep tonight. She did okay during the day off it. Her fever did break when she woke up. It’s encouraging to think that the iv antibiotics she’s on are at least slowing or halting further bacterial growth in her body.

The fun stuff…Yesterday was a ribbon cutting for the new 8 East wing which will primarily be a NICU step down. Today, it opened for patients and they needed bodies. Tate was the second patient in this wing and first one in this giant room.

Our emotions are all over the place tonight. Grateful to be getting some answers but processing the uncertainty of whats still to come.

Happy for potential direction but frustrated and sad that Tate just has to continue to carry more. Within the results we’re getting we’re still praying for resolution and a return to a better baseline.
