Day 19

“You can’t always find a silver lining, but you can always find a piece of shredded tinsel.”

Tate has been working on little “tinsel” bead keychains for our nurses badge reels. Everyone benefits from the reminder that there’s always something good to hang on to.

Today was a shredded tinsel, pull the blanket back over your head kind of day. Tate powered through a lot of pain today and tonight her HR is up and she’s running another fever.

There was a care conference without us with acute and chronic pain, palliative, rheum and the hospitalist team. It was mostly to discuss the science behind the med plan that isn’t working. They want Tate to sit for another 24 hours with the current plan and tomorrow maybe start on something new. I am proud of Tate for hanging in there. Pain has only gotten worse the last 48 hours.

Today we got new residents and tomorrow a new attending. The residents we met today and I think they’ll be a great team. The attending coming on tomorrow, we’ve had before. It’ll be okay and just maybe we’ll get home this week. But we really loved our attending this last week.It doesn’t take a lot of extra effort to show compassion, but the difference it makes is bigger than words.
